“One who eats alone cannot discuss the taste of food with others. The aim of my project is to explore the many ways we come together over meals. Showing the myriad ways that strong interpersonal connections are built when we sit down together and break bread.”
Meet Musonda
Musonda Kabwe (he/him) is an award-winning illustrator born in Zambia and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa. His work traverses the two worlds of traditional and digital approaches, as well as multiple areas in contemporary art. Musonda works independently, conceptualizing short and long-term projects that question social reality and galvanize empathy.
Musonda’s Adobe Stock Artist Development Fund was inspired by the Taste of Heritage creative brief. He'll share his experience growing up within Zambian and South African contexts, and the novel ways the two cultures have blended into each in the kitchen, on the dining room table, and in other places. The project will present a broad portrait of the continent of Africa, depicting 52 meals from Cape Town to Cairo. He says, “One who eats alone cannot discuss the taste of food with others. My project, “Meals from the Motherland,” is my personal take on the Taste of Heritage brief. The aim is to explore the many ways we come together over meals. I’d like to show the myriad ways that strong interpersonal connections are built when we sit down together and break bread.”
