Meet Sophie

Sophie Alp (she/her) is an illustrator and surface pattern designer, whose work can be found in editorial publications, as well as on textile and paper products carried by boutiques across Canada.

For her commission project for the Artist Development Fund, Sophie is creating illustrations that display a diverse representation of gender and backgrounds in "non-typical" social and professional settings. Growing up alongside her mother's journey in the science field has been an inspiration that she would like to share, and a reality that she would like to help see reflected more in the visual landscape. She says, “By representing and empowering women and girls, we create change, and I would love to contribute to this.”
