“Most veterans struggle when they first get out of the military; however many of them persist and overcome the newfound challenges of civilian life. I have been inspired by individual Veteran stories and am intrigued to hear about the great careers and passions many of them are pursuing today. My project is focused on sharing some of these stories in the hope to inspire and uplift others.”
Meet Ben
Ben Steele (he/him) is a photographer and filmmaker based in California. After graduating college in 2017, he joined the United States Marine Corps, where he served for just over four years. His work reflects his love for adventure, people, the outdoors, unique cultures, and meaningful stories.
Once Ben got out of the military, he traveled throughout Central and South America with his camera. Adjusting to post-military life wasn't as easy as he had hoped, so he felt inspired to pursue an Adobe Stock Artist Development Fund project that would allow him to tell the stories of six different veterans who he saw as examples of successfully transitioning to civilian life.
“After I completed my service, I reached out to my network and found that most veterans struggle when they first get out of the military,” he says. “However, many of them persist and overcome the newfound challenges of civilian life. I am inspired daily by other veterans and am grateful for the opportunity to highlight some of them in my project.”
